What to expect on your December bill
November started with a drought-busting rain that provided relief from a bone-dry October. North Texas received 1.6 inches of rain, up 1.4 inches from the previous month.
The average temperature for November was 61.7 degrees, right in the sweet spot where North Texans shouldn’t need much air conditioning or heating. The average temperature dropped 17 degrees from October to November, and there were 14 nights when temperatures reached 50 degrees or lower.
As a result, CoServ Members should expect electricity usage to be the same or slightly lower than in October.
October | November | Difference | |
---|---|---|---|
Average temperature | 79.7 | 61.7 | 18 degrees cooler |
Cooling Degree Days | 347 | 51 | 296 fewer CDD |
Heating Degree Days | 9 | 142 | 133 more HDD | Utilities and the federal government measure the impact of weather on energy usage by calculating Cooling Degree Days (CDD) and Heating Degree Days (HDD). To calculate the CDD, take the average temperature for a day and subtract it from 65. The higher the number, the more air conditioning will be needed to keep your home comfortable. Click here for more information on calculating CDD. |
Temperatures cooled down in the evenings, but not nearly as much as last year. The average low for November was 51.2 degrees, 3 degrees warmer than the same month last year.
Comparing this November to the same period last year, the Heating Degree Days dropped by 42% from November 2023 while the Cooling Degree Days increased only slightly. With the average temperature hovering around 65 degrees, CoServ Members should expect their electricity usage to be less than November 2023.
Rates
CoServ Members will also pay a lower electric rate in December.
CoServ adjusted the Power Cost Recovery Factor (PCRF) to -0.01 cents per kilowatt-hour, which means it trims 1 cent per kilowatt-hour off the base rate. The PCRF has been negative every month since July.
The PCRF accounts for fluctuations in wholesale power costs and is adjusted monthly. Visit CoServ.com/Rates for more information on how your rate is calculated.
What does this mean to you? CoServ Members will save $2.50 per 1,000 kilowatt-hour compared to last month.
