CoServ’s investments will pay off this winter
COSERV REPLACED 72 MILES of power lines this year, upgrading them to higher capacity wire. Tree trimmers have also been busy throughout the service area. And new smart grid technology further enhances our ability to respond to outages safely and quickly.
The larger capacity lines will allow us to accommodate growth, provide improved service to existing Members while also giving System Operators flexibility during an outage.
Imagine that old power line that served your neighborhood as a narrow two-lane road. If there’s a road closure that detours traffic onto that same two-lane road, it will get congested. By widening the road to four lanes, more traffic can be routed to that road without causing gridlock.
Upgrading power lines is like widening a road. If a utility pole goes down, CoServ’s system operators can reroute power onto the new upgraded line temporarily while repairs are done without causing congestion. This is called backfeeding in utility jargon.
In addition to expanding our system and upgrading capacity on existing lines, CoServ’s Vegetation Management Team works year-round to keep trees clear of our power lines. This preventative maintenance could be invaluable if there’s an ice storm, for example.
And if there is an ice storm, snowstorm or hard freeze, CoServ Members can count on our highly trained linemen to be ready to respond to any emergencies that occur. They are equipped to handle winter weather and will respond even on the coldest of nights. Our priority is to safely restore your power so you and your family can stay warm.
The easiest way to stay up to date about outages is to sign up for text or email alerts. Visit CoServ.com/Outages for more information.
Our linemen crews and customer care specialists combined with our investments in infrastructure and technology mean are we are prepared for whatever winter weather comes our way.
