CoServ Board Director Richard Muir to retire in November
Lifetime Sanger resident and business owner Richard Muir will retire from the CoServ Electric Board of Directors on Nov. 21 after 22 years of service to CoServ and its Members.
Richard’s current stint as a District 1 Director started in 2010. He also served previously from 1975 to 1982. Over the years, he’s been named chairman, vice chairman and secretary/treasurer.
Richard has seen a lot of growth over his various terms. Since 2010, CoServ has added 168,000 electric meters and will soon serve a combined 500,000 electric and gas meters. His leadership helped navigate the co-op through that growth.
Richard has also been a constant presence for CoServ Charitable Foundation grants and scholarship presentations.
“CoServ is grateful for Richard’s two decades on the Board and for making key decisions that shaped what the co-op is today,” said Donnie Clary, CoServ President & CEO. “His business acumen as well as his heart to give back to the community, especially his beloved Sanger, will leave a legacy that reverberates for years to come.”
Always humble about his own contributions, Richard credited his fellow Board Directors and CoServ Employees for “making me look better than I was.”
“I’m proud to be a part of that.” Richard said. “Surround yourself with good people. That’s one of the keys to business.”
Outside of CoServ, Richard was an independent insurance agent, a banking executive and had his own cattle business. He’s also active at First Baptist in Sanger, where he has taught Sunday school and other classes for several years.
What happens next?
Per CoServ’s bylaws, the Board of Directors may appoint a new Director to serve the remainder of Richard’s term, which ends in June 2025. After much consideration and candidate interviews, the Board selected Sanger resident Dr. Lynn Stucky to fill Richard’s unexpired term. Lynn has been a veterinarian in Denton County for over 40 years and is a long-time CoServ Member. He has also represented Texas House District 64 in the Texas Legislature since 2017. Lynn’s House term ends at the start of the next Texas legislative session beginning mid-January 2025.
