Located at 8601 Gary Burns Drive, the Frisco Fire Safety Town project was the dream of the Frisco Fire Department, built to educate children and equip them with real-life strategies for handling emergencies involving severe weather, bicycle safety, fire procedures, home hazards, traffic rules, and car safety. Over June, July and August, Safety Town offers special extended hours for Friday Night Family Night.
CoServ Gas is one of the founding sponsors at Safety Town, as safety is always CoServ’s highest priority. We are proud to support such a worthy cause dedicated to eliminate preventable accidents and injuries and increase public awareness. Furthermore, the sponsorship allows CoServ Gas employees to develop strong relationships with emergency officials and frontline first responders.
Safety Town resembles a “miniature Frisco,” complete with real buildings, all created at a 5/8th scale, which represent Frisco area businesses. Among the buildings are scaled homes built by the same Frisco homebuilders. Intermingled with the home and business buildings are paved and marked streets complete with working traffic signals, a railroad crossing and a toll booth.
At Frisco Fire Safety Town, children receive safety education using fun, hands-on activities in a safe and interactive environment. For example, during classes about the importance of seat belts, students drive battery-operated jeeps throughout the outdoor streets of Safety Town. They also ride bicycles during lessons about wearing helmets while skating or cycling. Hands-on safety exercises simulate hazards with lighters, matches, candles, frayed cords, and electrical outlets. A bedroom with a nontoxic “smoke machine” mimics a fire, and children are taught to identify hazards and develop and practice a fire escape plan. Safety skills are practiced under the watchful eye of public safety instructors.
Safety Town is located adjacent to the Central Fire Station (at 8601 Gary Burns Drive). School field-trip programs are offered free of charge to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Although the facility is reserved for school study trips, Frisco Fire Safety Town is available for group or individual tours throughout the year.
